Let's Dance!

Kavron sat by himself in the circle that surrounded the dancers on the floor. His tail wagged slowly as he watched in his mahogany cape and hat. The dancers looked great out there on the dance floor. He and Angel had danced on the floor, when Angel was alive and they were still together. Kavron knew not the first thing about dancing, but Angel had just loved it. The white female had taught him everything he knew about dancing, which wasn't much, but enough for them to have a great time together at the festival those two years ago. He had only just been promoted to scrapper at the time. He had been afraid that dancing would be embarrassing to someone with such a manly occupation, but his former mate could always charm him into anything. At first they started slow, with Angel showing him the basics. Before he knew it, he was swinging her around as nimbly as a leaf. She was not a small or thin breed of dog, but boy could she move! He could almost feel her in his arms now... so vibrant and young. He let out a sad sigh, watching the couples hold each other and dance around the floor.

It was then that another dog caught his eye. His friend, Aria, was sitting in the circle opposite of him, watching the dancing with a content expression on her face. The fellow scrapper, with her thin frame and gentle features, hardly looked the part, especially tonight. The lovely slender border collie was dressed in bright blue-purple beads, feathers and flowers. Kavron could only imagine how awesome she would look out on the dance floor in all those decorations. Yearning to be out on the floor again like he had been two years ago with his beloved, and relive the time of his life when he had been happy and carefree, he padded over to her.

Aria did not notice her co worker approach until he was almost right beside her. "Wow, Kavron! You look nice." She said, wagging her tail and greeting her friend.

Kavron nodded back, "You as well." Kavron said. Suddenly he was shy. What if she didn't want to go with him? Kavron was far from an outgoing dog, but he just loved the spring festival. He wanted to try. He dipped down in a chivalrous bow, looking up politely at the female. "May I have this dance?" He asked in a playful tone.

Aria looked at him in shock, letting out a nervous laugh, "Oh, no, no... I couldn't." Aria said. She was a scrapper! It was already hard enough for her to prove to the others that she was as tough as the guys, never mind if she was seen dancing around the floor like a girly poodle!

"Oh, come on, it'll be fun!" Kavron said, his brown eyes glowing as he pleaded her. "I know how to dance. I can show you. We will sweep the competition!"

Aria's bright olive green eyes looked around self consciously. "I don't know, Kavron." she said reluctantly.

Kavron held out a paw, "Let's show Eden that just because we are their warriors doesn't mean we are not cultured." He urged. Angel had said the same thing to him when he had resisted joining in the fun two years ago.

Aria finally gave in, placing her small white paw into Kavron's dark pad. The Anatolian Shepherd's tail wagged as he pulled her up on her hind legs. "Just follow my lead. You'll be great at this." he said. Over the years, Kavron had seen that border collies tended to be particularly great dancers, with their slim and athletic bodies.

 He started off slowly, but she was a fast learner, even if she seemed very uncomfortable for the first little while. As they circled around in a generic waltz, Kavron threw in little twirls and steps that Aria quickly picked up on. She was a natural! Just as he had expected. Soon they were twisting and swooping around each other, and Aria seemed to be having a great time, laughing and smiling.

Kavron smiled at her. Angel had been the same way, so energetic and happy. When he closed his eyes he could almost imagine her there. He felt two years younger, with the female he loved in his arms, and he couldn't be happier.... but when he opened his eyes he was back in the present, and it was Aria there instead of Angel. He really appreciated her spending this dance with him, letting him remember what was so dear to him.

"Are you having fun?" He asked the smaller female.

"Yes!" Aria laughed, loving the wind rushing through her fur as she swept across the floor with her partner. She was afraid at first that Kavron asking her to dance was an indication that he was interested in her, and she was not looking for anything more than friendship right now, but it felt so natural now. They were two friends, having fun together and enjoying the beautiful night full of excitement and joy.

Kavron smiled softly at Aria as he swung her around again, showing off her lovely feathers and beads bouncing from her flowery costume, making a lovely contrast against her pale creamy fur. Kavron's own mahogany-red cape swooshed around them like a stream of dusky sky.

Not often did Kavron have much fun ever since the desertion and then death of his mate Angel, but tonight was an exception. Dancing on the floor with his friend made him feel ten pounds lighter. He could still enjoy his life, even though the biggest part of it was long gone now. There was still hope for him to be happy, so long as he had his friends to give him something to live for.

He dipped her low, gave her a playful little kiss on the cheek, and pulled her up again, "Thank you." he said to her with a friendly smile, and the pair danced all night long...

I wanted to write a nice little story about this picture, since I worked hard on it and I wanted to spend more time.

I know they look a bit anthro... I was going for just really-good-at-standing-on-hind-legs look haha. I wish I had done Kavron's face a little better. I used a lot of pictures of people dancing as pose references, but no dog references, so I apologize if anatomy is bad Dx

This is for the Spring Festival for Their Dark Eden! My Kavron is finally learning to move on. and what a lovely little friend he's found!
